Having finally settled down at Princeton it is time for me to start making things happen. In the spirit of this sentiment I am delighted to announce my candidacy for Class Officer of the Class of 2021. I want to be one of the five students representing, caring for, and enabling the great Class of 2021. Not only this year but for many years to come.
In my class representation philosophy there are two dominating topics: community and fun. The two concepts might seem trivial but I have always believed that God is in the details. Indeed, we do not always need magnificent innovation to make something better than it already is; sometimes all we need is a stickler for detail, and that stickler could be yours truly.
Firstly, let me explain why community is so crucial to me. Before my arriving on Princeton campus I had never been to America before. To be honest, I was really worried about how I would be greeted here as a foreigner with relatively poor understanding of American culture. Of course, I shouldn’t have worried in the slightest. It turned out the University and her students are already doing an amazing job promoting community and inclusivity. I would hope each and every member of the class felt the same way setting foot on campus for the first time as an enrolled student. Of course, I can’t say that for sure but I want to be able to. I want to work towards everyone feeling properly included, and enabling everyone to have an excellent time here at Princeton. Granted, I am not going to pretend to have all the answers as to how I will accomplish this, but I certainly want to explore what can be done with class wide events and other festivities. With really high quality events I hope we can bring this class together like no other class before us.
Fun might seem even more trivial than community so let me, once again, explain myself. Even though I am just a freshman who has barely had time to settle in yet, it has become clear to me that the pace and pressure here at Princeton is unlike anything I have encountered before in my life. I feel challenged everyday and I feel like I’m learning faster than ever while growing as a person in a ludicrous pace. However enjoyable that might be, it is of course also very taxing. This is where good old wholesome fun comes in. I want to make sure our class get the breaks and fun one-off events that make those midterms and Dean’s date papers feel manageable and worth it. Together with the other elected Officers I want to help each and every one of you to the quintessential college experience, whatever that means to you!
Of course it is impossible for me to make all this happen by myself. So let me remind you that the power is in your hands. Feel free to forget about the pronunciation of my name, just don’t forget to vote!
